More than a dozen bands, duos and solo performers were ready to shine during auditions for a talent show in Surrey.

Tom Lee Music in Guildford played host to the auditions Saturday for the annual Surrey Shines show, which will be held Feb. 2 at Surrey Arts Centre.

In an office space near the music store on, young musicians plugged in with hopes of earning a spot in the Surrey Shines spotlight.

The talent show gives youth a professional performing experience under the mentorship of Carol Girardi, president of the Arts Council of Surrey, and theatre pro Ellie King.

Surrey Shines is an event presented by the Youth Arts Council of Surrey.

"The auditions went great, and we have a lot of very talented youth to choose from," Brie Hemingway, an organizer of the Surrey Shines auditions, told the Now.

The focus now shifts to a second round of auditions - for dancers, singers, magicians and other performers - on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Newton Cultural Centre. Auditions are by appointment only; to get involved, call 604594-2700 or email info@artscouncilofsurrey.ca.
