The Surrey Eagles are following a familiar pattern to start the B.C. Hockey League season - win one, lose one, repeat.

For the second straight weekend, the Eagles posted an overtime win followed by a loss as Surrey and Chilliwack took turns celebrating home-opening victories. Surrey edged the Chiefs 3-2 in OT Friday at South Surrey Arena before falling 4-2 to the hoe side Saturday in Chilliwack.

The weekend results, coupled with a split of games at the BCHL showcase a week ago, leaves the Eagles with a 2-2 mark to start the season.

"It seems every year starts out like this for me. It's either 3-3 or 4-4 or something like that before we settle down and get going," said Eagles coach Matt Erhart. "The first period in both games were very similar with both teams afraid to make a mistake. Home openers are always tough to play. There's always at delay at the start and then when the game begins, the players have been standing around for half-an-hour after their warm-up."

The Eagles' fans got their first look at the team in league action Friday night when Surrey rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit to earn the win in extra time.

The Eagles began their comeback in the second period with a power-play marker from Michael Stenerson and pulled even in the final frame with another goal with the mad advantage, this one by Colton Mackie.

Surrey wrapped up the win late in overtime when Drew Best tallied with the teams playing three-on-three hockey.

The rematch the following night in Chilliwack was decided early in the middle frame when the Chiefs erupted for three goals in a four-minute span to wrest control of the contest.

Brett Mulcahy's third goal of the year gave the Eagles some life but Chilliwack struck again shortly before the second intermission to restore the three-goal gap.

The Eagles outshot the Chiefs 16-10 in the third period but could only muster a late goal by Best to close out the scoring.

The Eagles will stay close to the nest this week with a pair of home games. Surrey hosts Victoria on Friday at 7 p.m. and Alberni Valley Sunday at 4 p.m.

- The Eagles made one roster move this week, sending future considerations to Nanaimo for forward Mason Blacklock. To make room for the White Rock native, Surrey released Harlan Orr.
