The Surrey United Firefighters and Delta United Hurricanes are on a collision course once again following second round play in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League's Imperial Cup tournament.

The two Provincial Cup finalists from 2012 are set to clash again after both posted quarterfinal wins last weekend. The Hurricanes did so in dramatic fashion, topping rival ICST Pegasus of Newton 2-1 on penalty kicks at John Oliver Park.

The cards were not stacked in Delta's favour as they were missing starters Ryan Dhillon and Arjun Atwal to suspensions and Jason Gill and Joey Brar to injuries.

Despite the manpower shortage, the Hurricanes kept the game close with no scoring by either team in regulation. Delta finally took the lead in overtime with a breakaway goal by Kam Hundal only to have the Horsemen answer two minutes later with a goal of their own by Javid Khan.

The game was ultimately settled by penalty kicks with Delta scoring on all five attempts while the horsemen could only put four of their freebies past Hurricanes goalkeeper Auden Schilder.

"It was great to get a win like that because we only had one substitute available and that was Gary Badesha and he's coming off a knee injury himself," said Delta manager Billy Dhaliwal. "Our best chance came right at the end of regulation when Phil Lensky was stopped cold on a breakaway. That would have been a great way to finish it, but we had to go to overtime and then penalty kicks before it was over. That's fine though; we'll take it."

Elsewhere, the Firefighters took care of business by dispatching Inter FC by a 3-1 count.

Jeff Clarke and Angus Burke each scored first half goals to spot Surrey with a 2-0 lead at the break. Inter closed the gap to one with a goal in the 70th minute, but Burke sealed the deal five minutes later with his second goal of the afternoon.

"They looked very similar to the team we played for the last several years in premier and they're coming back to premier again next year," Surrey coach Rob Reed said of the first division Inter squad. "We certainly didn't underestimate them because they have experience competing at this level so we were prepared for a tough game.

It certainly wasn't as oil painting, but we got what we wanted and now we'll move on."

Surrey and the Hurricanes will square off on Saturday afternoon at Cloverdale Athletic Park beginning at 2 p.m.

Newton's Rovers CCBTU were eliminated from Imperial Cup play with a 1-0 loss to Westside in Vancouver Sunday.
