One way or another, the Lions were destined to win this one.
The Cloverdale Lions scored a touchdown with three minutes remaining and then survived a scare courtesy of a last-minute fumble before hanging on for a 20-16 win over the rival North Surrey Lions in Vancouver Mainland Football League atom division play Sunday.
Sam Adrian scored two touchdowns and Justice Fee added another to lift Cloverdale to the win.
Cloverdale's bantam Leopards were not as fortunate as they were trampled 45-3 by the Mustangs in Langley.
North Delta
North Delta's atom Longhorns prevailed 42-20 over the visiting Titans of White Rock thanks to a trio of touchdowns from Xavier Singfield.
Carter Spencer added two more TDs while Xavier Cole scored once.
Lucas Roling scored two TDs and Beckham Dickie added another in a losing cause for the Titans.
The North Delta peewee Longhorns improved their record to 7-2 with a 22-0 victory over the Cloverdale Lynx.
Diallo Ighorewo scored two touchdowns and Treh Bhullar added another to spark the Longhorns attack.
White Rock-South Surrey
The peewee Titans won big at home Sunday where they knocked off the rival Langley Cowboys 22-0.
Nick Murray opened the scoring with a 45-yard TD run in the first quarter. White Rock then sealed the win with second-half touchdowns from Lukas Frers and Balsher Randhawa.
Titan defenders Kolby Bartnik and Ivan Rojas each recovered a fumble to keep Langley off the scoreboard.
In junior bantam play, Tighe Andreou rushed for a pair of majors to boost the White Rock Titans to a 36-20 win over the visiting Westside Warriors.
Quarterback Jaxon Russell found Noah Brown with a 50-yard scoring pass and Ben Dube broke loose with a 40-yard touchdown run to help the Titans' cause. Silas Huizinga rounded out the scoring parade with an 80yard punt return for a TD.
North Surrey
Two touchdowns from Elijah Hassan were more than enough to help the North Surrey bantam Tigers maul the Victoria Spartans 30-0 in bantam action.
David Lagou and Oso Okie provided the touchdowns as the North Surrey bantam Panthers topped the host South Delta Rams 14-10.
In peewee play, Emmanuel Odeng, Marcellus Linnen and Vikram Sidhu all contributed to the scoring as the North Surrey Hawks blanked the Richmond Raiders 36-0.
Junior bantam action saw the North Surrey Eagles squeak past the host Royal City Hyacks 14-13. Sebastien Reid and John Marquez each scored once for the Eagles.
