The North Delta Devils turned in a pair of impressive performances in earning a split of Pacific International Junior B Hockey League games last week.
The Devils dropped a 2-1 decision in Mission Thursday before bouncing back to douse the Ridge Meadows Flames 6-1 at Sungod Arena Saturday.
Joshua Trisevic scored the lone Devils marker in Thursday's loss while goalie Tyler Read earned third star honours with 37 saves.
On Saturday night, Ridge Meadows opened the scoring and the Devils took care of business from there with six unanswered goals.
Tristan Craighead applied the heat with a hat trick while singles came from Marco Romano, Levi De Waal and Devon Elford.
The Devils are at home again Saturday night at 6: 45 p.m. when they welcome the defending champion Delta Ice Hawks to Sungod Arena.
COACHES NAMED
South Surrey-based Coastal FC has strengthened their coaching staff with a pair of highly decorated appointments to guide their boys and girls Under-12 programs.
Bob Birarda has been named the head coach of the girls U-12 program in addition to his duties as coach of the Coastal FC U-16 girls' team in the EA Sports premier league.
Birdara's resumé includes six years with the Canadian women's national team program, where he coached in four FIFA World Cups, the Beijing Olympic games, and five CONCACAF Championships. He also spent two years as head coach of the Whitecaps women's team.
Coastal also welcomes Niall Thompson to the fold as the new coach of the boys U-12 program.
Thompson currently holds a USSF National A coaching licence and is a former professional player who played with the Canadian national team and English Premiership side Crystal Palace. He also made stops with clubs in Scotland, Belgium, Hong Kong, and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Most recently, Thompson guided the Surrey United Firefighters to the men's club provincial championship in 2012.
Coastal FC executive director Chris Murphy said both coaches will begin work immediately in the Coastal Premier League Academy where they will have the opportunity to work with and scout potential players for their respective 2001 born intake groups.
