Pitt Meadows native and Hometown Hero Brenden Morrison will be at the unveiling of the Spirit of Wood carving in his honour at the Pitt Meadows Arena on Saturday.

Morrison is a centre for the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks. His early hockey-playing years were spent with the Ridge Meadows Lightning. He has since played for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Ana heim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, and Calgary Flames.

The meet and greet takes place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The arena is at 11435 Bonson Rd.

One of Maple Ridge's hometown heroes is also immortalized with a carving.

In February 2011 the former Ridge Meadows Lightning player Cam Neely helped pull away the curtain covering a life-sized wood carving in his image.

Neely, a former resident of Maple Ridge, enjoyed a distinguished hockey career starting in the early '80s with the Ridge Meadows Lightning.

He went on to play three National Hockey League seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before being traded to the Boston Bruins, where he played 10 seasons before retiring in 1996.

In 2005, Neely was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
