ICST Pegasus kicked off the Vancouver Metro Soccer League premier season with an impressive 3-1 win over ICSF Inter Saturday in Vancouver.

After a scoreless first half, the defending B.C. champs finally opened the scoring on a goal by Meysam Soltani in the second frame. The goal brought little relief, however, as Inter answered quickly to tie the game at 1-1.

Sahil Sandhu put the Horsemen back on top in the 80th minute when he sidestepped one defender and unleashed a hard rising shot into the top corner of the Inter goal.

Pegasus then put the game on ice with Soltani's second of the game five minutes later.

"Sahil's shot was just a rocket and it was nice to see that ball going into the net," said Pegasus coach Rob Reed. "We squandered a lot of chances in that game, we controlled the play for the most part, but couldn't score. I was never worried though because I knew when we finally did score, the dam would break and it did with two goals in the last 10 minutes. We left it a little late, but I was very pleased with our performance."

Pegasus is back home this week when they host the Delta Hurricanes on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. at Newton Athletic Park.

The new look Delta entry created some excitement before falling 3-2 to Rovers United on the opening weekend of premier play.

Delta United merged with the Punjab Hurricanes during the off-season and for 70 minutes, the new team looked impressive. Amar Bains and Geoff Kosub each scored once to spot Delta to a 2-1 second half lead only to have the Rovers storm back with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to steal the win.

In other VMSL premier play, the Surrey United Firefighters forged a narrow 2-1 win over Norvan in Vancouver Saturday.

Surrey led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Ryan Reynolds on a set play off a free kick.

Norvan leveled the count with a goal early in the second half, but Surrey regained the lead for good in the 70th minute when Sean Ennerson redirected a rebound off a shot by Vinnie Stewart.

Surrey returns to action Friday night (Sept. 16) when they travel to the North Shore to take on West Van.

In Fraser Valley Soccer League premier action, Peace Arch United battled to a 2-2 draw with the Trinity Western Titans. Luke Ash and Jay Dunnett each scored once for Peace Arch.

In other FVSL premier action, Surrey FC Athletic Club knocked off Langley United thanks to goals from Venny Attwell and Jon Sotelo.
