The Editor,
Re: "Ethnicity: Rules for one, rules for all," the Now, Aug. 16.
I am fully supportive of the Indo-Canadian Summer Soccer Association and its rule limiting the number of "imports" per team.
The focus of this league is encouraging youth of the South Asian community to participate together in the game of soccer. Years ago, my son played in a Christian summer soccer league which similarly limited the number of "imports" of which he was one. I also think of the Girl Guides, which steadfastly restricts membership to girls and women. All three of these organizations have very legitimate reasons for limiting their membership.
I do not view Rule 32 as racist. If they decide to change their focus to one of promoting understanding between the South Asian community and other ethnic groups, then it makes sense to change it.
