Jordan Klimek is developing a reputation for scoring clutch goals for the Surrey Eagles.

The hard working forward was at it again Sunday as he bagged the overtime winner to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 win over the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks in B.C. Hockey League action at South Surrey Arena. It marked the second time this season Klimek has potted an overtime winner against the Silverbacks.

"I don't know what it is, just luck I guess," Klimek said with a grin. "I dished the puck over to (Stefan) Burzan and he shot it. Just before he (Salmon Arm goalie Angus Redmond) was going to cover it, I poked it by him.

"It's weird because three of my five goals have been in overtime. I'm actually pretty good buddies with their goalie so he's probably going to be choked."

Klimek's goal capped a perfect weekend for the Eagles as the Birds won all three games on their BCHL slate. Surrey topped archrival Chilliwack 6-4 on the road Friday night and then downed Langley 3-1 Saturday before edging Salmon Arm Sunday.

The Eagles regained sole possession of first place in the BCHL's Mainland Division standings and now lead Chilliwack by three points - coincidentally, the same number of points they've gained from Klimek's overtime heroics this season.

Sunday's game with Salmon Arm was not a pretty sight to behold as the Eagles were without the services of nine players due to assorted injuries. Predictably, Surrey sputtered early in the contest and found them selves down 1-0 and outshot 25-9 through two periods of play. Eagles coach Matt Erhart said such stats actually fit the team's game plan under the circumstances.

"Our goal was to keep it close early," he said. "Obviously we were missing a lot of guys and all the lines were pretty scrambled. We threw some things together and tried to keep the game close. In the third period we moved (Devon) Toews up to forward to see if he could make anything happen and he scored a nice goal. Salmon Arm was playing their third game in three nights too and once we got one goal, things seemed to open up a bit more."

Toews' goal provided a much needed boost to the tired Surrey lineup and after weathering a storm early in the extra session that included a shot off the goalpost, the Eagles put the game away with Klimek's marker.

"We had a real short bench but those kinds of things happen over the course of a season," said Eagles captain Brett Mulcahy. "Other teams go through it too and this weekend it was our turn. Be battled through some adversity and the kind of game today helps build our character. When we can beat teams with so many guys out, it builds a lot of confidence. Half the game is mental so a win like this really goes a long way."

Surrey opened the weekend on the road in Chilliwack where they rallied from second period deficits of 3-1 and 4-2 to score four unanswered goals and knock the Chiefs out of first place.

Mulcahy led the way with two goals while solo markers came from Nicolas Pierog, Drew Best, Michael Stenerson and Kevan Kilistoff.

The Eagles were back in their nest Saturday where goalie Michael Santaguida stopped 30 Langley shots to backstop his team to a 3-1 win over the Rivermen.

Pierog and Kilistoff each had a goals and one assist while Trevor Cameron scored once.

The Eagles are in Prince George Thursday before returning home to face Langley Saturday at 7 p.m.

Eagles notes: In the latest Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rankings, Surrey is slotted at 17th in Canada... Eagles forward and North Delta native Demico Hannoun has committed to attend Michigan Technological University, beginning in the 2014-15 season.
