The road was not a friendly place for Surrey rugby teams as both the Bayside Sharks and the Surrey Beavers absorbed lopsided losses last weekend.

In Victoria Sunday, the Bayside Sharks could not pull a rabbit out of the hat for a second straight week as they fell 38-15 to James Bay in Canadian Direct Insurance premier league action.

One week after rallying from a 22-0 halftime deficit to beat UVic, the Sharks found themselves down 24-3 to James Bay. The Sharks managed to score a quick try after the break but the home side outscored them 14-5 the rest of the way to end the Bayside comeback magic.

"It wasn't too pretty," said Bayside coach Pat Kearney. "For a lot of our guys it was the first time playing on that sloping field they have there. It really is a different game there. If they're running downhill at the start and you're climbing uphill for the first half like we had to do, it makes things difficult. The halftime score reflected that and unfortunately we didn't have the same spirited second half comeback that we had a week ago against UVic."

Spencer Thorpe and Adam Timler each scored one try for the Sharks while Dan Dixon chipped in with a penalty kick and a convert.

The Sharks at back home Saturday when they take on the Meralomas at 2: 30 p.m. at South Surrey Athletic Park.

Elsewhere, the Surrey Beavers came up empty in their to Point Grey as they were blanked 24-0 by UBC in Okanagan Springs Brewery first division action.

"We gave up a bunch of easy tries to the outside and that killed us," said Beavers coach Kevin Taylor.

"They got two or three soft tries like that and when we finally found an answer for that, we were way behind. "

The Beavers host Langley Saturday at Sullivan Heights Park beginning at 2: 30 p.m. The game will double as Surrey's "Rucking for a Cure" cancer fundraiser.
