The Delta school district is holding its annual science fair at Scottsdale Mall on Wednesday, March 6, from 3: 30 to 5: 30 p.m.

As many as 200 students from 12 schools will bring their displays - either individual or partnered projects - to the mall and show off their bright, young minds. The fair will host projects from elementary schoolers in the fourth grade up to high school seniors.

"They had to pick a topic and then do their experiment and do a write-up on a poster board," said Karen Reid, co-ordinator for the science fair. "They also have to have some kind of oral presentation ready for the judges and the public."

Reid said one of the big themes of this year's science fair is the environment and sustainability. Many of the students have prepared projects relating to how our actions impact the environment, both positively and negatively.

"Some are looking at alternate power sources, effects on the environment, plant growth, oil spills," said Reid.

All students will receive ribbons for participation, and some may be selected to take their science projects as far as Ottawa - if they can get past the regional science fair.
