The White Rock-South Surrey Titans used some last minute magic to steal a 18-17 win from the host North Delta Longhorns in a battle between the last two provincial midget champions at John Oliver Park on Sept. 30.
The defending champion Titans fell behind 7-0 early in the second quarter but answered with a 66-yard catch and run play by Alex Lane to cut the gap to 7-6 at the halftime break.
North Delta extended their lead to 17-6 with a touchdown and a field goal in the second half before White Rock began to battle back. Quarterback Zack Skene scrambled 19 yards for a TD but the two-point convert attempt failed, leaving the Titans down by five points with less than a minute remaining.
With momentum on their side, Titans kicker Peter Kilberg launched an on-side kick that was scooped up by Will Watson. With Dallas Yassinsky leading the blocking, Watson returned the ball for a touchdown to give the Titans their first lead of the day.
With seconds remaining on the clock, North Delta's final desperate ended with the Longhorn's pivot being sacked by White Rock's Jesse Lawson.
Cloverdale
Brandon Fuchs scored two touchdowns and teammates Jamie Fuchs, Jace Atkinson and Brady Barrick added one each as the Cloverdale Tigers mauled the Vancouver Trojans 32-8 in atom division action.
Cloverdale's other atom entry also posted a win as the Lions roared past Delta 13-6 thanks to TDs by Matthew Baxter and Griffin Duckworth.
North Delta
The atom Longhorns improved their record to 4-1 by handing the rival North Surrey Lions their first loss of the year 38-12. Carter Spencer led the herd with four TDs while on defence, Matthieu Desgroseilliers and Xavier Singfield repeatedly foiled the Lions offence.
