The Tamanawis Wildcats lived up to their nickname by running wild through the senior boys' AAA soccer tournament en route to capturing the Fraser Valley banner.

The Wildcats dismantled Terry Fox 6-2 in the Valley finale last Thursday in Newton.

"We were ranked No. 1 for the Valley going into the tournament so we knew we had a good chance to win it," said Tamanawis co-coach Paul Rai. "The kids were really focused which is impressive because most the guys are still in Grade 11. We only have three Grade 12s so to do this with such a young team shows how talented these guys are."

Undefeated in league play, the Wildcats atoned for their lone draw of the season by romping past Queen Elizabeth 7-0 in the first round of Fraser Valley playoffs.

The Wildcats then kept their momentum going by trouncing Heritage Woods 6-0 in the quarter-finals followed by a 4-0 win over Sardis in the semis.

Rai said the Wildcats expected to meet Charles Best - who beat Tamanawis in the Valley tourney last year - in the finals but those plans were sidetracked when Terry Fox upended the Blue Devils 3-1 in the other semifinal.

Undeterred, the Wildcats took care of business, scoring three times in the first 15 minutes of play and cruising to the 6-2 win in Thursday's final.

Anuup Singh scored twice to spark the Wildcats while singles came from Manraj Bains, Mathew Bains, Dilpreet Brar and Happy Pahal.

The Wildcats now advance to the class AAA provincial tournament Nov. 22 to 24 in Burnaby. Joining them there will be defending champion Enver Creek, who blanked Heritage Woods 2-0 to finish fifth in the Fraser Valley.

The class AA senior boys' provincials will be held Nov. 19 to 21 in Burnaby. The Sands Scorpions, who placed fourth in the Fraser Valley tournament, will represent North Delta.
