The Tamanawis Wildcats and White Rock Christian Academy Warriors will be Surrey's representatives when the 2012 B.C. High School Senior Boys AAA Basketball Championships tip off at the Langley Events Centre next week.

The Wildcats head into the provincials following a third place finish in the Fraser Valley Championships while the Warriors finished sixth in the always competitive Valley showcase. Pitt Meadows defeated Walnut Grove in the title game to claim Valley bragging rights.

Tamanawis clinched a provincial berth on Feb. 27 when they downed White Rock in the quarter-final round. The Wildcats returned to action Friday night at the LEC where they were edged out 63-60 by Pitt Meadows in the semifinals. It was the closest game of the tournament for the eventual Valley champs.

"I was very happy with the way we came out and battled hard against Pitt," said Tamanawis coach Surinder Grewal.

"We played a heck of a game against them but in the end, the difference was three points. It was a really good test for us and we gave them a good game. There was one stretch early in the fourth quarter where we didn't really score and that's where they got up on us.

"We fought back and almost tied it up but couldn't get there at the end."

Manny Dulay led the Wildcats with 16 points while Sukhjot Bains and Ravjot Dhaliwal each chipped in with 11 points.

The Wildcats then closed out the tournament in the bronze medal match where they needed double overtime to subdue the Terry Fox Ravens 68-65.

The seesaw affair saw the Ravens rally to overcome an 11-point deficit in the final minutes to force overtime. In the extra session, Fox clung to a three-point lead in the dying second when Dhaliwal connected on a clutch three-pointer to knot the score again and force a second overtime session. The Wildcats then rode the momentum of that big shot to the win and the third place finish.

"We just found a way to win that game," Grewal said. "The win was the icing on the top but it was a great game for us in many, many ways. Our senior players really stepped up and showed their leadership. It was one of those games where we kind of saw it all and that made it a fantastic test for us because we will see a lot more of those situations next week in the provincials."

Dulay finished with 14 points and 14 assists against Terry Fox while Dhaliwal hit for 17 points and Bains added another 15. Dulay was named to the tournament's first all-star team while Bains was a second team selection.

Meanwhile, White Rock Christian endured a roller coaster week before settling into sixth place in the Valley. After falling to Tamanawis Monday, the Warriors kept their season alive with a 77-66 win over Princess Margaret in an elimination game on Thursday.

The next night the Warriors were back on the court where they dispatched Yale 77-70 in a rematch of the 2010 provincial final. The Warriors ended the Valley tourney on a sour note with an 83-74 loss to W.J. Mouat in Saturday's fifth place game.

White Rock's Jake Newman was selected to the second all-star team.

While Tamanawis and WRCA prepare for the provincials, three other Surrey and North Delta teams saw their seasons end last week. Princess Margaret was eliminated with the loss to White Rock on Thursday while Enver Creek was ousted the same evening at the hands of Yale.

The North Delta Huskies stayed alive with a 57-47 win over South Delta on Thursday but lost 79-52 the following evening to Mouat. The Huskies dreams died on Saturday night when they were tripped up 60-53 by Yale in a game to determine the Fraser Valley's seventh and final provincial berth.
