The Bayside Sharks will be chasing a pair of championships in playoff rugby action at North Vancouver's Klahanie Park Saturday.
Thanks to a first-place showing in league play, the Sharks will take on the Vancouver Rowing Club for the Okanagan Springs Tier 2 First Division championship. The second-place Rowers advanced to the title game with a semifinal win over Seattle last weekend.
Meanwhile, the baby Sharks will be looking to win some silverware of their own as Bayside's second division side faces the Rowers in that division's title game.
"This is the last thing to check off on the list of goals we set for ourselves in January," said Bayside coach Pat Kearney. "We finished in first place in the league and we qualified for the premier league and now we're going trophy hunting. We have the opportunity to win both the first and second division titles and that's a big thing for our club. We'll have two full squads this week and we want to bring two titles back from North Van."
In the main event for first division clubs, Bayside will be looking to win the rubber match after the Sharks and the Rowers split a pair of league games this season.
Both teams won on the other club's home field but Kearney believes Bayside has momentum on its side.
"We split our games with Rowers this year but what's good for us is we probably played our best game of rugby all year when we beat them by 24 points at their park," he said.
"We want to go out against them this week and build on that with another full, cohesive game of rugby. We don't want to leave anything to chance or to the refs or to the Rowers and the way to do that is to dictate and control all aspects of the game. We're going to go full throttle for the whole 80 minutes and end the season on a good note."
Bayside's second division entry earned a shot at the playoff title when they squeaked past Richmond 16-15 at South Surrey Athletic Park last Saturday.
Prop Josh Areai scored the lone Bayside try while Graham Rogers used his foot to round out the scoring with three penalties and a conversion.
