SOUTH SURREY — The music program at Semiahmoo Secondary will put a "Spotlight on the Grammys" during its 27th annual fundraising dinner and dance.
The special event, set for the evening of Saturday, Nov. 30, is the school music program's major fundraising event of the year, when its award-winning jazz musicians are "showcased" to the local community. While only the jazz students perform, funds raised at the event benefit the entire Semiahmoo Secondary music program.
The event emcee will be Jim Black, a Semiahmoo Secondary grad and current member of the Vancouverbased band Star Captains, to also perform at the fundraiser. The dinner and dance offers a chance to "walk the red carpet" into the school's completely transformed gymnasium and revel in the jazz music of the inaugural Grammy Awards from 1959, as performed by the school's jazz bands. Music made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Perry Como and Henry Mancini, among others, will be revived and remembered.
The event will feature a buffet dinner, draws, raffles and auctions. Ticket prices range from $65 to $90 via firstname.lastname@example.org. For details, visit www.semiahmoomusic.ca/27th-annual-dinner-dance.
