Nola Carlson said it happened in a flash.

The 54-year-old South Surrey woman was jogging with her friend Shelley Lammers, 51, from North Delta on Monday night in South Surrey when a driver ran them down and took off.

The vehicle hit Lammers, throwing her into Carlson. Carlson said her friend is expected to be in hospital for another four or five days. Both were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital - Lammers by air ambulance.

"I'm the lucky one," Carlson said.

Meantime, Surrey Mounties are looking for a white crossover vehicle with front-end damage. The women were struck in a crosswalk, at 152nd Street and 32nd Avenue, shortly before 8 p.m. Both were wearing reflective clothing and headlamps.

"We were really geared out, wearing headlights," Carlson said. The crosswalk was also well lit.

Both women are members of the Running Room, an outfit that stresses safety on the road. Despite all their precautions, Carlson said, neither woman saw the vehicle bearing down on them.

"I would ask the driver to please come forward and identify himself or herself," she said.

On Wednesday afternoon, police released a video of the crash in an attempt the driver. It can be viewed on sendtonews.com.

"Our investigators are making great progress in this case, and we could like to remind the driver involved that it is never too late to do the right thing," said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet.

Police ask witnesses and anyone else with information to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
