A 16-year-old boy was struck over the head with a baton during a daytime street assault in North Delta on Tuesday. Four teenage boys were subsequently arrested.
Const. Ciaran Feenan, of the Delta Police, said a North Delta resident called police about a fight out in front of her home, in the 11200-block of 82A Avenue.
She told police a person was being hit with what appeared to be a baton. The victim sustained cuts to his head that weren't considered to be life threatening.
When police arrived at the scene they found four boys trying to hide and one of them had a baton.
Feenan said the four were taken to police headquarters. "Two of the males were later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date, and two were released pending further investigation," Feenan said. "The investigation is still ongoing."
Meanwhile, Delta Police are looking for a man who flashed a knife after he was caught shoplifting at the Superstore, in the 8100-block of Scott Road on Tuesday.
The suspect is described as East Indian, about 30 years old, with a short trimmed beard. He was wearing blue jeans, black dress shoes and a puffy black vest with a hooded sweatshirt underneath.
Feenan said police hope video surveillance footage will help weed this suspect out. The man entered the store, grabbed some merchandise and snuck out without paying for it. When confronted about it in the parking lot, he pulled a knife out, pointed it at his pursuer and ran away.
