Crash sends pair to hospital

Two people were taken by ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital after the car they were in collided with a semi-trailer at the intersection of 176th Street and 24th Avenue early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 7: 30 a.m. and police had the intersection closed for many hours after as crash-scene analysts investigated.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said the truck driver wasn't physically injured, but the driver and passenger of the car sustained injuries that were considered serious but not life threatening.

"Both were conscious and breathing at the time," he said. Initially, an air ambulance was dispatched to pick them up from the scene but that had to be cancelled because of poor weather, Paquet said.
