The Surrey Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak by edging the Coquitlam Express 5-4 in B.C. Hockey League action Wednesday in Coquitlam.
Surrey captain Brett Mulcahy and Joseph Drapluk each scored twice and newly acquired goaltender Devon Fordyce stopped 31 shots to boost the Eagles to the win.
“The guys recognized we had to come up with a good game just to get off this little losing streak,” said Eagles coach Peter Schaefer. “We played well and we got a lot of shots, but they always seem to be crazy games in that rink with the lively boards there. On their first goal they dumped the puck in and our goalie went out to play it, but the puck popped out for an empty-net tap in. A lot of our guys have never played in that rink before and they don’t know the bounces yet.”
Nicolas Pierog scored the other Surrey goal.
Before the game the Eagles completed a trade to add Delta resident Garrett Forester to the nest. The 18-year-old forward played in Chilliwack and Coquitlam last season before being traded to the Flin Flon Bombers in the summer. Forester never reported to the Bombers and had been idle prior to suiting up with the Eagles in Coquitlam Wednesday.
