SURREY - Surrey will be home to a 52-storey hotel, the tallest building south of the Fraser.
The 144-room Civic Hotel at 3 Civic Plaza, with construction to begin in January, will be part of Marriott International's "Autograph Collection" of 50 luxury hotels worldwide.
The plans were unveiled Tuesday, at a press conference at Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus.
"It really is a great day today for us to welcome such a premier hotel in the Surrey City Centre," Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts said.
Scott Allison, vice president of Marriott Hotels Resorts Canada, praised the design. "We think it represents exactly what Surrey stands for, this sophisticated city that stands for innovation."
