SURREY — Musician Rykka is encouraging people to spend time outdoors Saturday, Oct. 19 as part of her "Nature Rocks" initiative.
The Surrey-based singer/guitarist is currently in the Peak Performance Project band contest, which urges the top-20 finalists to do something for a charitable cause.
Those who set aside time to be in nature Saturday are invited to raise money for the David Suzuki Foundation and its program to connect youth with nature (via www.indiegogo.com/projects/nature-rocks-2013).
"Invite your friends and family and spent time in nature together," Rykka stated. "Let the world around you know that time spent in nature is well spent. Take a walk with a friend through a forest or park, go bike riding, cilmb a mountain, meditate outdoors, bungee jump! Share your experience online to spread the word using #NatureRocks2013."
Rykka's debut album, Kodiak, released last May, included songs written from the perspective of animals. Her song "Blackie" was recently featured on the TV show Rookie Blue.
