Heading this way in about a year's time is a new Golf that's a few centimetres longer than the current model, but nearly 100 kilograms lighter. The engine lineup is expected to include a new 1.8-litre four-cylinder base engine that replaces the current five-cylinder. The Golf's optional turbocharged 2.0-litre engine (part of the GTI package) and fuel-sipping turbo-diesel powerplants are expected to return essentially unchanged.

What's up, auto doc?

Since everyone knows you work on your own cars, you no doubt have 10 sets of sockets and wrenches given to you at every birthday and Christmas. Of course, you need more than that, but you don't often realize it until you're in the middle of a job. Although tempting, stay away from heavily discounted socket sets since no matter how good the deal seems, you're acquiring more of what you don't need.
