"Couples Night Out" is the title of a tour featuring Christian comedian and prolific author Phil Callaway and guest guitarist Jay Calder, who visit Surrey for a pair of church dates - Feb. 4 at Parkland Fellowship and Feb. 6 at Sonrise Full Gospel.

"Callaway's greatest passion is telling stories that help people laugh and learn about the things that matter most," said event publicist Lisa Wilson, who bills the show as "an evening of fun and faith for couples." Tickets are $5 per couple; details are online at www. couplesnightout.ca.

ALL FIRED UP AT MUSEUM

Turnout gear worn by a female mannequin, White Rock's very first fire truck, one special red fire hydrant and many stories about major blazes in the area are part of Emergency and Everyday Assistance: A History of Fire Rescue in White Rock, the current exhibit at White Rock Museum.

Jasmine Moore, the friendly coordinator of collections and exhibits at the beachside attraction, has assembled a worthy tribute to local firefighters and the work they've done over the past 100-plus years, including volunteer efforts. Also featured are works by skilled student artists at Elgin Park Secondary, an old air-raid siren and more.

The exhibit opened Jan. 21 and continues until the beginning of May at 14970 Marine Dr. Call 604-541-2222 for more details, or visit whiterockmuseum.bc.ca.

ART SHOWS OPEN

Opening this weekend are a pair of art shows on two fronts.

At Newton Cultural Centre, a reception at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 marks the opening of an exhibit/sale of works by Fraser Valley-based members of The Federation of Canadian Artists. The exhibit runs until Feb. 28 at 13530 72nd Ave., Surrey.

Meanwhile, at Watershed Artworks gallery and shop in North Delta, the impressionistic photographs of Ian Logie will be on display for the month of February. A meet-the-artist event happens Saturday, Feb. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m., at 11425 84th Ave.

ART GALLERY TOUR FEB. 9

Curator Jordan Strom leads an informal tour of Surrey Art Gallery's latest exhibit next Thursday, Feb. 9, from 7 to 8: 30 p.m.

The by-donation event will focus on Beyond Vague Terrain, which shows the many sides of a city - especially Surrey and Vancouver. It's a great chance to learn more about the art on display, including Surrey artist Helma Sawatsky's recombined images of a new building site in South Surrey and Sylvia Grace Borda's interactive photographic database of every bus stop in Surrey. For a closer look at the exhibit, visit www.surrey.ca/arts, or call 604-501-5566 for details.
