SOUTH SURREY -- Gayle Boutilier and Shirley Holowaychuck were as good as their word.
They organized an event called Summertime Living & Giving, held Aug. 24 at Beecher Place in South Surrey. The dance and fundraiser was part of a promose Boutilier made a year earlier.
"I won the 'venue' in a silent auction, at a fundraiser I attended last year," said Boutilier. "I decided right then and there to pay it forward and use the venue certificate to host a fundraiser within the year to benefit the White Rock South Surrey Hospice Society. And we made it happen!"
The event netted nearly $5,400 for the society.
"These ladies put their hearts and souls into this fundraiser and we are so thankful for their generous spirits," said Theresa Robson, associate director of the hospice society. "The $5,400 in proceeds will be used for the benefit of the programs and services we provide to those individuals, their families and friends who are facing advanced illness and grief."
White Rock South Surrey Hospice has offered free programs and services to the community for 30 years.
