SURREY — A 35-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital suffering from "severe trauma" after a hit-and-run in Newton on Monday night.
The woman, a Surrey resident, was walking near the intersection of 144 Street and 82A Avenue around 7:45 p.m. when she was hit by a 2005 grey Honda Accord. The driver took off after hitting her.
The woman was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, with life-threatening injuries.
A 49-year-old Coquitlam man turned himself in at the Surrey RCMP detachment in Newton about two hours later, and police seized his car.
"We always hope doing the right thing will happen just after the accident but we're definitely happy we don't have to chase him down," Cpl. Bert Paquet said. "Charges are likely but at this point in time they have not been confirmed."
