Three concerts are booked into Blue Frog studio/concert hall in White Rock this month.
First up is Steelin' in the Years, a tribute band that features vocalists Billy Mendoza, Debby Low and Tina Zambrano backed by Phil Robertson (drums), Kerry Galloway (bass), Joe Cruz (guitar), Jason DeCouto (keyboards/piano) and a horn section of Bill Runge, Dave Say and Geeta Das.
The band is set to play Blue Frog on Saturday, Nov. 17 - a night of "Reelin' in The Years," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" and all the Aja you can handle (in celebration of the album's 35th anniversary). Alas, the concert is sold out.
Also booked for concerts at Blue Frog this month are Alfie Zappacosta (on Nov. 22 and 23, tickets $35) and Melanie Dekker (Nov. 25, tickets $22). For details, visit www.bluefrogstudios.ca/newshows.
Zappacosta will be at the Johnston Road venue to celebrate the release of his Live From Blue Frog DVD.
The 1980s were good to Zappacosta, who became a chart-topping artist, two-time Juno Award winner and an American Music Award winner for his contribution of "Overload" to the platinum-selling Dirty Dancing film soundtrack.
In June 2011, Zappacosta performed three nights of concerts at Blue Frog to shoot the video for his DVD, recently released and making noise around North America.
Zappacosta has been long considered one of the best vocal talents in Canada. He had a number of chart-topping singles, including "Nothing Can Stand In Our Way," "Passion," "When I Fall In Love Again," "We Should Be Lovers" and others. The Calgary-born Dekker, meanwhile, has performed for Bill Clinton and has shared the stage with Diana Krall, Faith Hill and Bryan Adams. At Christmas 2009, Dekker went to Afghanistan to sing for the Canadian and American troops. In 2010, she recorded an uplifting new album called Here & Now, recorded at Factory Studios in Vancouver, and set out to perform close to 200 concerts in Europe and North America.
